THIS was a real shocker from the Rose as they were well and truly beaten by a good West End side.
Admittedly, they were without several key players but were a poor second best last Saturday.
They included new signings Richard Miller in defenc
e and Ian Grieve, who started on the bench.
The game was played in blustery conditions and the home side took advantage of the elements in the first half and had the game won before half-time.
Bonnyrigg had no answer to the fast raids of Mark Pirrie and Scott Johnston on the flanks and they provided a good supply of quality ball which had the Rose defence struggling.
The first goal arrived in only five minutes when a through pass from Stewart McConnachie reached the onrushing Grant Lawson and he beat Michael Atai with ease.
West End kept up their attacks and James Morrice had to look lively to block a shot from Lindsay Stewart.
The Rose tried to respond and Darran Thomson had a header on goal but Stephen Vanderdeyl saved comfortably.
Paddy Flannery and Dean Walker had the only decent efforts in the first half without really threatening Vanderdeyl.
Most of the first half was played at the Bonnyrigg end and West End hit the Rose with a quick one-two just before the half hour.
After the Rose had put West End under some pressure from a corner, Grant Lawson picked up the loose ball just outside the penalty area and ran unchallenged almost the length of the park before sending home a shot which went in off Atai's legs.
Just 90 seconds later Mark Pirrie sent in another long ball from the right and Stewart McConnachie went round Atai and placed the ball home for the third.
It might have been even worse for Bonnyrigg when Richard Miller brought down Pirrie in the box but Atai made a fine save from hat-trick seeking Grant Lawson's spot kick.
The second half saw the Rose come into the game a bit more but the midfield was badly out of touch and the strikers were not given many chances as a result.
Charlie Brigain had a nice run stopped by impressive full back Craig Logan and it was the home side who added to their score with just under 20 minutes left.
Another long ball found Stewart McConnachie and as the defenders hesitated he sent the ball behind Atai to complete the scoring.
Brigain had a header cleared off the line by John Roberts and David Burrell had a shot blocked but West End were in control and although Bonnyrigg plugged away until the end the home side ran out worthy winners.
Both sides had three bookings in a hard match well handled by Mr Banks.
Forfar West End: Vanderdeyl, Logan, Black, Millar, Gibb, Lawson, Pirrie, Stewart, McConnachie, Roberts, Johnston.
