Bonnyrigg Rose 3
Camelon Juniors 1
Bonnyrigg won through in the end but they left it late against a strong tackling Camelon side, who were reduced to 10 men midway through the first half.

It looked like the Falkirk side would hang on for a point but a late double saw the Rose home
.

Alan Miller brought in Craig Lumsden at the centre of defence alongside Ally Reid, with youngster Scott Ritchie having a break.

Michael Atai, returning in goal, had a fine early save as the visitors settled quickest and put the Rose under pressure. Chris Donnelly's header from a cross from Brian Bell was well saved by Atai as the Rose struggled in the early part of the game.

Paddy Flannery was almost in but keeper John Hutchison was out quickly to clear.

Sean McKenna looked the big danger for Camelon when on the ball and he gave Atai a fright with a solo run and shot just wide.

Camelon deservedly took the lead, albeit from a soft penalty award, when Blair Batchelor went down from a Reid tackle. Steven Kicznsky did not hesitate and sent home the perfect penalty.

However, Camelon put themselves under pressure midway through the half when midfielder Mark Gillespie saw a straight red for a high tackle on Reid.

It was the visitors who remained the better side until half time and Batchelor shot just over from another McKenna assist. Graeme McCaul had a free kick high over as the Rose struggled to get into the much game and it was Camelon who led at the break.

The second half started much like the first with Bonnyrigg huffing and puffing but generally getting nowhere and Batchelor continued to cause trouble with his pace on the right. David Burrell had a shot after good play from James Morrice but it did not trouble Hutchison.

Bonnyrigg had a strong shout for a penalty soon afterwards when Sean Paliczka appeared to be tripped by James Mitchell but the referee did not agree. Camelon continued to impress and Brian Bell and Mitchell were particularly impressive during this spell. Paliczka and Flannery had a tough time of it and they were feeding on scraps most of the time.

However, credit to the Rose for keeping going until the end. Camelon looked to have held out for a fine draw when sub Charlie Brigain popped up in the 90th minute to put the Rose in front from a Paliczka assist.

Then, deep into injury time Graeme McCaul sent in a fine cross and Flannery headed a fine third. A bit flattering for Bonnyrigg but another big result for them in their quest for the league championship. Greig Denholm can be proud of his side and were unlucky not to share the points at least.

Bonnyrigg defended quite well as they were under quite a bit of pressure but the midfield could not get their passing game right on Saturday and as a result chances were few and far between.

However, all three goals were well taken and it's on to Bo'ness tomorrow (Saturday) for another Super League game against the local United at Newtown Park (kick off 2pm).

Bonnyrigg Rose: Atai, Campbell, Hamilton, Reid, Lumsden, Thomson, Morrice, Burrell, Flannery, McCaul, Paliczka. Subs: Bracks, Ritchie, Walker, Brigain, Killin.
Camelon Juniors: Hutchison, Bell, Kicznski, Mitchell, Cringeon, Gillespie, Batchelor, Dick, Jeffrey, McKenna, Donnelly. Subs: Shirra, Shearing, Donaldson, Kerrigan, Bowers.
Referee: Mr G Leslie.
