Bonnyrigg had tough tackling Andy Campbell to thank for keeping their Scottish Cup hopes alive.

The big defender was on hand to fire home the equaliser in the 93rd minute after home keeper Paul Davidson had parried Paddy Flannery's header.

It
looked like the Rose were going out of the national competition but they kept battling until the end and got their reward.

Bonnyrigg had Scott Ritchie back alongside Campbell in defence and Sean Palizcka in attack.

They took the game to the home side early on with Charlie Brigain prominent.

He fired just high from a Flannery flick.

St Andrews responded and Paul Farquharson and David Evans combined to test Michael Atai who had to tip over for a corner.

Flannery was winning a fair share of high balls and Sean Paliczka was almost in on one of his head flicks.

However, a shock for the Rose in 16 minutes.

A left wing cross from David Evans was missed by everyone and the unfortunate Ross Hamilton could not get out of the way and the ball rebounded from him for a lucky opener.

Bonnyrigg, playing up the hill in the first half, pressed forward and Flannery hit the side net with a shot before St Andrews broke away and from a Farquharson cross Gary Sutherland headed against the bar.

Paliczka had a chance but miskicked in front of goal before, just before half-time, Graeme McCaul had the best chance of them all, six yards out, but he did not connect properly and it was 1-0 for St Andrews at the break.

Kicking down the slope in the second half Bonnyrigg attacked the home side but for a long time they could not find a cutting edge.

Indeed the best chances of the half fell to St Andrews and Gary Sutherland will wonder how he headed wide from inside the six yard box.

The Rose were forcing St Andrews back, however, in a marvellous second half. Paddy Flannery hit the post and it was looking like the goal would not come.

However, with 16 minutes left Flannery did the trick with a right foot shot that Davidson parried into the net.

Credit St Andrews though, they went all out for another goal and Campbell and Scott Ritchie were under pressure at the heart of the Rose defence.

Atai was called upon to make a couple of decent saves but, with only four minutes remaining, Ricky Patrick sent in a speculative cross from the right that sailed over the Rose keeper into the net.

It looked all over for Bonnyrigg but they never gave up and showed great character to pick themselves up again and they got their reward when Andy Campbell became the hero, forcing the ball home in the third minute of injury time.

This was a really terrific cup tie and a good crowd will be expected this week for the replay.

The game will be played to a finish with extra time if necessary.

A real fighting display from the Rose at Recreation Park and if they show the same commitment this week they stand a good chance of progressing.

Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic: Atai, Morrice, Hamilton, Campbell, Ritchie, Thomson, Brigain, Burrell, Flannery, McCaul, Paliczka. Subs: Bracks, Reid, Walker, Salton, Killin.

Dalkeith Thistle also left it late to force a replay at Sauchie who led with a 35th minute header from Alan Letham. Dalkeith levelled in 85 minutes when Steve MacDonald fired home from long range to make it 1-1.
