Pat Glynn, manager of Bonnyrigg Rose, has tendered his resignation just days before the start of the new season.
Graham Harvey was in charge of the Rose in the friendly against last season's West Region Super League champions Pollok.

Pat quit last Wednesday after many years at the helm.

Bonnyrigg officials responded quickly by appointing ex-Rose player
Alan Miller to the post and he took over his duties on Tuesday August 5.

Alan was previously manager of Edinburgh United.

Graham Harvey has agreed to stay on as assistant manager.

Bonnyrigg had several new faces in their starting line-up including ex-Dumbarton and Linlithgow Rose striker Paddy Flannery and they started well.

Pollok, who now have ex-Bonnyrigg and Linlithgow manager Jim Sinnett at the helm, replied with some good play by left winger Alan Essler.

The game flowed from end to end and young Ross Hamilton took the eye in midfield with some nice touches.

Grant Killin also looked in the mood and he was a thorn in the flesh of new Pollok defenders Wingate and Gupwell and was unlucky not to gain a penalty when he appeared to be impeded by Carruth.

Pollok winger David McGeown was looking dangerous every time he was in possession. However, Craig Meikle, Ally Reid and new signing Keith Salton looked strong in the middle of the defence.

Both sides had chances in the first half but it was no scoring at the break.

Both sides made wholesale changes in the second half but it was still a competitive match and both sides wanted to win.

Bonnyrigg took a deserved lead when another new boy John Laidlaw took advantage of slack defending to send a fine right foot shot behind Robertson.

The home side were shocked and forced the pace putting the Rose defence under considerable pressure mainly through the efforts of little McLay from the midfield and from his cross danger man McGeown almost equalised.

Paul Riley almost sealed the win though with a fine effort which rebounded off the crossbar with Robertson hopelessly beaten.

However, the home side got the equaliser with about quarter of an hour left when McGeown got his head to an Essler cross beating Lenny Clark and hitting the post. But Brian Dingwall was on hand to net the rebound from close in.

Inevitably Pollok's pressure paid off with only six minutes left when sub Turnbull was given time and space on the left before crossing.

McGeown somehow managed to beat three Rose defenders to the ball and tapped in for the winner.

The Rose open their season on Saturday with a visit to Prestonfield to play 'the other Rose' in the League Cup so it is a tough baptism for new manager Miller and no doubt a game he will relish for his debut.

Teams:

Pollok: Robertson, Carruth, Cruickshank, Wingate, Gupwell, McLay, McGeown, Miller, Dingwall, Downs, Essler. Subs: Newall, Booth, Aitchison, Turnbull, McKay.
Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic: Clark, Bracks, Thomson, Meikle, Salton, Reid, Burrell, Riley, Killin, Flannery, Hamilton. Subs: Stewart, Young, Parkin, Brigain, Laidlaw, Martin.
